I Love You Means Shit To Me

Nothing says "I Love You" like a pile of shit...even better, when it's actually written with piles of shit.

A farmer in Iowa wanted his wife to know he was thinking about her on her birthday, and the best way for him to express himself was with shit.

I've been known to do that back in my glory days, parading around the house as a toddler, but I at least kept it in my diaper..and stopped when I got my big girl panties.

This farmer, Dick Kleis, used 120,000 pounds of manure to basically write out "HAP B DAY LUV U" in the snow to show his affection for his wife.

He said it only took about three hours to write the shitty message, and even said it's not very difficult to do.  His expert advice to those of you wanting to write your beloved a message with shit, particularly in the snow: "Any manure will work but the good, soft, gushy, warm stuff works the best. It kind of melts the snow."

Wouldn't you think a farmer in rural Iowa would have thought to use bales of hay to convey his message or take a lesson from graffiti artists and use spray paint instead of using 60 tons of shit to say "I Love You"?

According to his wife, she says although it's a little weird, she still says he "dung good" when asked if she got the perfect birthday present.  I say he's a dungass.

Dick Kleis wasn't the only person with this shitty idea though.  Another farmer in Minnesota, Bruce Andersland, showed his affection for his wife on Valentine's Day by creating a heart shaped pile of poop...with an arrow through it.

Bruce's wife said it was the largest valentine she had ever received.  No kidding. It's a field covered in heart shaped poop.  Apparently, Bruce had the idea because the square mile, snow covered field seemed fitting for something.

Um, a poop shaped heart was the only thing you could think of to utilize this land? How about farming it? No, I get it...playing with shit is always more fun.

If anyone wrote me a message in shit, piss, blood, semen, or any other bodily fluid, that person would be dead to me.

Facebook Faux Pas

Facebook is one of the best social utilities ever created.  It connects you with family, friends, old flames, and even enemies.  It's a place where you can stalk people, and not get caught.  It's a place where you can keep up with each other's lives without putting in too much effort. But sometimes people use it for the wrong purposes.

Like any other social network, Facebook has it's fair share of faux pas.  Some people cross the line.  We're all guilty of it.  But the biggest faux pas are the people who fit into certain categories and will always be in that category as long as Facebook exists.

Are you in one of these categories?

1. The constant complainer: You log into Facebook.  The first thing you see is your friend complaining about something...yet again.  It's usually the same topic.  "My job sucks"; or "my boyfriend sucks"; or even "school sucks".  Facebook can be a place to vent, but when every status update is just a rewording of the previous ones, it gets old.  I have friends who constantly complain about the same topic, many times a day, and expect different results.  Just because you update your status doesn't mean your life will change. Don't be a Debbie Downer.  Maybe it's time to make a change so you can have an opportunity to STOP COMPLAINING!

2. The compliment seeker.  Did you just get a new haircut? Have an interview for a great job? Get engaged? Great. CALL your friends! Don't simply use Facebook to share your great news so your 429 friends can comment on your status update.  Sure, it's okay to share this news, but after three weeks of hearing about your new engagement, and seeing 3 photo albums of the ring on your finger, shot from different angles, we get the point.  Time to move on. Talk about something else.  There's nothing worse than someone who is so desperate for compliments, it's all you can talk about and think about, to the point that you've stopped caring about anyone else except yourself.

3. The couple who is too much in love and can't stop updating us about it. I'm really happy for you that you found true love.  I really am.  I have too. But, logging onto Facebook every three minutes to proclaim your undying love for someone is not only annoying, it's pathetic.  You already know people are happy for you if you're happy.  That doesn't mean that you constantly need to update your status with things like "i can't believe how happy i am...i love you so much and i can't stop thinking about you...you make me complete...xoxoxoxoxo" or that your status consists of a single heart and a series of ...  I would personally rather see you and the love of your life having sex than constantly reading this Hallmark, ooey gooey bullshit.  I love someone too. She's amazing and I love her with all my heart. But when I want everyone to know we're happy and I know people are happy for us without my having to write sappy love poems every four minutes on my status updates.  We get the point.

4. The people who can't spell and/or have horrible grammar. I know not everyone is a good speller. I happen to be one, but I certainly don't expect other people to be.  But, it's really not that difficult. In fact, Facebook is like Microsoft Word and allows spell check by underlining your misspelled words with a red line, pointing out your mistake.  I especially hate when people misspell words, especially when they're trying to make a point about something important, like a presidential election, politics, social injustice, etc.  How am I supposed to take you seriously when you don't know the difference between "you're/your" and "they're/their/there"? Seriously.  Not that difficult.

5. The people who use Facebook as their primary source of communication. What happened to a simple phone call? An email perhaps? Why is it I can only get ahold of certain people on Facebook? What did we all do before Facebook? I don't get it.  I am a well rounded person as far as communication is concerned.  I talk to many people on the phone; others I get by with emails and texts; but there are those of you I can only get ahold of if I log into a website.  That's just fucked up. I hate it.  Call me instead of writing on my wall, or commenting on my status.  If you really cared, you would pick up the phone or at the very least, send emails more often...especially family and close friends!

6. The kid obsessed people.  Yes, your baby is cute.  Congrats. I'm happy for you.  But do we really need updates that Baby X just had his first solid poop in a week? Or that Baby X just won't latch onto your nipples? Or how about my favorite, Baby X's 3,098 photo albums that are updated week by week? Seriously? Babies are all the same. Your baby is no different.  They all eat, shit, sleep, puke, and then they learn how to walk and talk. I understand as a new parent it's amazing to go through these new experiences, but you're not an innovator.  You're a regular parent. Knock it off.

7. The Facebook fad follower.  How many of you have seen this: "if you love your (insert family member here) and aren't too proud to say it, post this as your status for an hour"? WTF? Of course I love my family and friends...I don't need your generic status message to say what I want to say. It's like people look in their news feed, find these stupid status updates and copy and paste them as a testament of their love? No, you're dumb. Or how about joining groups or becoming a fan of something? Sure, I'm a fan of gay marriage; doesn't mean I have to join a group about it or become a fan of it, especially when I'll NEVER visit the page again! Or how about the recent group "I bet this pickle can get more fans than Nickleback?" Who the fuck starts this shit? How annoying!  Be creative; stop copying other people's shit and facebook fad groups end as quickly as they start and all you're left with is 422 fan/group pages you'll never visit again.

8. The people who quote movies/songs but don't give proper credit.  Someone on my friends list quoted a Matt Nathanson song yesterday, "Come on Get Higher" and there were several comments from people saying "OMG that made me cry! Your woman is so lucky!" and "that's some intense shit" and my favorite "that gave me chills".  Are you fucking kidding me? This guy did not come up with this on his own! He used someone else's amazing lyrics and used them as his own, and has yet to correct people who have commented. His intentions were good--he was quoting a song to show us the current mood he was in--he's in the military and is missing his pregnant wife. I get that. But, I quote songs and movies all the time--yet, I give proper credit when people comment. I say things like "Oh, that's from this song or that movie". For those of us people who are creative, don't NOT give the proper credit. It makes you look stupid if you don't and you should feel guilty for taking the credit. It's called 'fraud'!

9.  The ones who start fights...on purpose. I'm guilty of this one myself, I'm not gonna lie.  Sometimes when I'm pissed off at someone, I'll update my status to say something and without using direct names, they get the gist of it. Like I said, it's okay to vent, but it's not cool to start fights on people's statuses and walls.  I have been known to do it myself and I'm not exempt from this category, but I especially hate the people who start shit and make snide comments, and when I call them out on it, they get all pissed off as if they did nothing wrong! If you have something to say, tell me to my face. Call me up! I do the same for you. And I haven't done this one in a long, long time.

10. The lurkers. Yes, you know who you are.  You want to know what's going on in everyone else's life and have opinions about it, yet won't offer anything yourself? You are online. I know you are. You just commented on my status, yet you're not showing up in the chat box.  You say it's because you don't want to "chat". Okay, then don't. If someone opens a chat window, just close it and ignore it. That's what I do. I respect your "privacy", but if that's really your goal, why are you even on a public social network? How about sticking to private emails if you can't man up and offer information about your life.

Cyber Marriage

I've always suspected the Japanese were a little odd and took electronics to the extreme; but I never thought it was possible to take it to this level.

A Tokyo man by the name of Sal 9000 (the only name he would give to the interviewer, and probably his "Love Plus" name), courted a woman named Nene, escorting her on the streets of Tokyo, taking her on vacation to Disney World and to a beach resort in Guam, and getting to know her on an intimate level.  Sal has found his dream woman, a woman who he has now married.

Seems normal, right? Well, maybe I didn't mention that Nene is actually a character in a Nintendo DS game called "Love Plus".

Sal appears to be relatively normal.  He dresses nicely, has nice teeth, and is even fairly attractive.  According to the interview on CNN.com, he claims Nene is better than a human girlfriend.  He says, "She doesn't get angry if I'm late in replying to her. Well, she gets angry, but she forgives me quickly."

CNN.com's article quotes, "Japan's Internet community has witnessed relationships and marriages to avatars, though it's typically been within the confines of the virtual world. Last month, Sal decided to be the first human-to-avatar union. Clad in a white tux, Sal married Nene in front of some friends and Web users watching the ceremony live online."

My first reaction was who was going to stage an intervention and get this guy to a shrink? But it appears he knows that the marriage is not legal, physical, and he understands 100% that it is only a game.  He says, "I love this character, not a machine."

What happens when his DS runs low on battery, or the game has a glitch? Is that Nene's signal for "Honey, I have a headache?" like real women do when they don't want to sexually satisfy their men?

A man named Hiroshi Ashizaki, who writes about game addictions, doesn't think Sal 9000 is an extreme case. He says, "what is healthy about Sal is that he can communicate with people enough to do an interview on CNN and webcast a half-serious wedding." Great. So now we have someone validating this cyber marriage/relationship. It's one thing to be personally invested in a video game, but it's another to be "personally" invested in a video game character!

Ashizaki also states, "Today's Japanese youth can't express their true feelings in reality. They can only do it in the virtual world...It's the reverse of reality that they can only talk about what they feel to a friend in the virtual world." Maybe that's because the entire country of Japan is the computer and electronics mecca of the world and because the rest of the world is hungry for the Japanese inventions, future generations will never know how to communicate without saying things like "OMG", "LOL", or texting 1,000 words per minute?

The world is coming to an end.  Gone is the beauty of human interaction; in its place is a virtual world where everyone communicates through electronics only.  I think I'll stick to my human girlfriend.

Illegal Aliens

With the quick approach of Halloween, many people are scrambling to find the perfect Halloween costume.  This year, people may choose to dress up as Bella and Edward from "Twilight", in fact, I'm sure most high school couples will do just that.

Since vampires seem to be gaining popularity once again, another popular costume idea this year is "Barakula", a cross between our President and a vampire.  Don't quote me on it, but I'm pretty sure somewhere out there in the internet world is a rock musical called "Barakula" where Barack fights off vampires.

If you really want to frighten people, I suggest purchasing a mask from Ogawa Rubber, Japan's top rubber mask maker, preferably in the form of the late, great, Michael Jackson.  Even better, it comes in two different colors, black and white, which is weird considering M.J. himself always said it didn't matter.

The funniest costumes of the year also happen to be the most controversial.  If I were still into dressing up and going out, I would totally pick one of these as my costume of choice...well, maybe not in South Florida because I, as an American, am actually a minority and would probably get shanked for wearing it, but I would migrate North to don this costume, or buy it for one of my friends North of the Mason-Dixon line.

Introducing, the "Illegal Alien" costumes.  According to CNN.com, the costume includes an orange jumpsuit, similar to prison garb, with "Illegal Alien" stamped in black across the chest; a space alien mask; and a fake Green Card.  Apparently there are two costumes; this one and another costume that includes a space alien mask, this time with a dark handlebar mustache and a baseball cap.

Maybe I'm an asshole; maybe I'm prejudiced; or maybe I'm one of the many Americans who are tired of illegal immigrants receiving better health care and other benefits than my family and I do, but I find this costume absolutely hilarious and find it to be the perfect mix of satire and Halloween!!!  The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, however, does not share my sentiment.  They started receiving emails Friday morning, which CHIRLA wrote several letters to stores like Target, Walgreens, and Amazon.com, asking them to stop selling the costumes.

Apparently, illegal immigrants everywhere are "offended" that these costumes are a direct attack on illegal immigrants, meaning, how dare we Americans make such a costume? Who the hell do we think we are, right?  Yes, illegal immigrants are humans and have feelings but they are not Americans!  WE Americans have the right to make whatever kind of costume we want, and should not have to worry about people who cross our border ILLEGALLY getting their little feelings hurt.  If you come here illegally, you better learn our customs, speak our language, or your opinion simply does not matter.  That's harsh, yes, but it's the truth.  If I were to go to Laos, Germany, or Haiti, no one would care if my feelings were hurt...no one would listen to me if I didn't at least attempt to learn the language.  And most of all, no one would welcome me with open arms, like we do here in America!!!

You know when my feelings get hurt in my own country? When I can't afford health insurance, and the gov't cares more about the people who come here illegally than they do about me. I was born here; I deserve health care.  You were born in another country; you deserve health care in your OWN country.   If you want to come to this country, do it legally. I don't enter YOUR country illegally, blatantly ignoring signs like this, and then get offended when you make fun of me and other Americans.  It's a two way street mi amigo...you can't dish it out and then refuse to spoon it back in.

One more thing, last time I checked, it was okay for illegal immigrants to dress and act like us, but we can't dress and act like them?  I mean, if this picture doesn't depict immigrants posing like Americans, I don't know what picture does. We're just trying to blend into the American population, just like you.

Earth Has A Fever; Humans Have The Cure

The planet Earth is amazing and there will never be anything like her again.  She gives us food, water, heat, beauty, and life.  She takes care of us, from birth to death, each and every generation.  Unfortunately, she has a sickness; BUT, we have the anecdote.  We need to cure her before it's too late.  We need to return the favor and give her life.

I decided to participate in Blog Action Day, which, according to the website, is "an annual event that unites the world's bloggers in posting about the same issue on the same day on their own blogs with the aim of sparking discussion around an issue of global importance.  Blog Action Day 2009 will be the largest-ever social event on the web.  One day. One issue.  Thousands of voices".

This year's topic: Climate Change.  If you are a blogger, please post your own blog about climate change.  If you are just a reader, please forward this blog to as many people as you can to raise awareness about this topic.  It doesn't matter what day, what month, or what year it is; anytime is a good time for awareness and change.

Although my voice may be quiet when it stands alone, when united with thousands of other voices, it is BOOMING!

Once upon a time, all climate changes occurred naturally; that is, until the Industrial Revolution.  During the Industrial Revolution, people started using machines to make their lives easier in both agricultural and industrial practices.  This revolution completely changed the way humans lived their lives, and with that, it also changed the climate.

What exactly is climate change?  First, it's important to know what a climate is--a long-term average of a region's weather, which includes temperature, precipitation, humidity, wind, etc.  Climate change simply represents changes in these long-term averages and weather patterns.  With climate change, weather patterns for specific regions can get warmer or cooler, raineer or drier, etc.  Although climate change still occurs naturally, humans have affected climate change the most.

Along with climate change is the idea of global warming.  Many people joke about global warming; for example, someone in the Midwest will say "It's snowing in August! Global warming my @SS!!!"  Global warming refers to an average increase in the Earth's temperature, which can cause changes in climates around the world.  Earth's temperature has raised about 1° F over the past 100 years.

This 1° F seems pretty insignificant, but that 1° F has changed everything.  It has contributed to changes in rainfall patterns, a rise in sea level, and has had a wide range of impacts on plants, wildlife, and even humans.  So when people joke about global warming, they're taking the term warming a little too literally at times; yes, the planet is technically getting warmer, regions such as the Midwest may experience cooler weather at times when the climate's average is warmer weather.

What causes global warming?  The same thing as what causes climate change--natural events and humans.  What most people don't realize is exactly how they control climate change and global warming.  Sure, population growth, deforestation, and burning of fossil fuels are all human activities and they all affect climate change by affecting the mixture of gases in the atmosphere.  The energy it takes to light and heat and the electricity it takes to power are homes are major influences on the climate as well, not to mention the power plants, transportation, air pollution, and other ways we use fuel.  But, it's the smaller things we do that also make the difference in changing our climate.

Your favorite TV show is on, you're going on a hot date and your hair needs a blow dry, your house is hot so you turn on the A/C, you just bought a new album and can't wait to listen to it, or you reheat leftovers in the microwave--every time you engage in these seemingly minor activities, you are helping send greenhouse gases into the air!  In order to perform these functions, we rely on electricity, which comes from power plants and since most power plants use coal and/or oil to make electricity, burning coal/oil produces greenhouse gases!

Not only is our climate affected, but humans and ecological systems are affected as well.  Climate change can affect the health of humans both directly and indirectly.  For example, extremely hot temperatures and high humidity cause heat related health problems.  On the same note, ecological disturbances, pollution, flooding, and changes in food and water supplies also impact human health.

The world's habitats and ecosystems are very specific and rely on a certain climate to thrive and survive.  These regions rely on a variety of things--rainfall, temperature, soil type, wind, etc. to survive and a change in climate can upset this balance and endanger these ecosystems.  Since most climate changes have occurred slowly, many plants and animals have adapted to these changes, or they have simply moved elsewhere.  But if the climate changes occur more rapidly like some scientists are predicting, the animals and plants in these ecosystems may not be able to react accordingly and they could become endangered.

The sea level is in danger of rising even more as well.  As Earth's temperature rises, the glaciers start melting and they add more water to the ocean.  Also, warmer temperatures make water expand, which makes the sea level rise.  With the rising of the sea level comes coastal flooding, which can cause saltwater to flow into freshwater areas, thus harming plants and wildlife that depend on freshwater.  Coastal flooding also affects beachfront properties, as well as beaches.

EVERYTHING and EVERYONE on planet Earth is affected by climate change, but EVERYONE can make a difference.  Although there are huge, major natural events and human controlled reasons and events for climate change, there are also small ones; so, it makes sense that there are both major and minor things we as humans can do to curb global warming and change the climate for the better.

1. LEARN AND SHARE: In order to understand the environment, one must learn about it.  There are many informative books at your library or bookstore, as well as websites and even classes you can attend to learn more about the environment.  Once you have educated yourself, it's time to educate your family and friends.  Not everyone is easygoing about change, but with a few helpful tips, facts, and if you lead by example, they'll be more likely to follow your lead!  Check out the EPA's website about climate change and spread the wealth of your knowledge.

2.  SAVE ELECTRICITY/SAVE ENERGY: Believe it or not, turning off lights, fans, TV's, stereos, and other electronics DOES conserve electricity and energy! Check out ways you and your family can help conserve electricity and energy.  Contact your local electricity provider for helpful energy efficient tips.  You can also visit Energy Star for information about energy efficient consumer products, as well as helpful tips and information.

3. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION/BIKE/WALK: Driving a car is not a bad thing; you just have to be smart about it.  If possible, get an electric car, investigate whether or not your car accepts Flex-Fuel, or buy a Hybrid of your favorite brand.  For more information about energy efficient and environment friendly vehicles, visit Fuel Economy.  If that's not possible, then ride the bus, your bike, or use your own two legs to transport you to work, the store, the mall, the park, or other places in town.  You can also carpool or even share a taxi with someone.  Not only are these options cheaper, but they are better for the environment as well.

4. PLANT TREES: Planting trees and other leafy plants are a great way to reduce greenhouse gases in the environment because trees can absorb carbon dioxide, a harmful greenhouse gas.  Go to your local nursery or plant store to purchase a tree to plant in your yard, or get involved in a community tree planting.  Trees are not only great for the environment and are aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

5.  RECYCLE: A person's trash is another person's treasure.  Recycle glass, plastic, paper, and anything else that can be cleaned and reused.  Purchase cloth bags to use when you go shopping instead of plastic; if you do use plastic bags at the store, take them home and recycle them by using them for something else.  Reuse folders in your office or at home.  When people recycle, we send less trash to the landfill and help save on natural resources such as trees, metals, and oil.  Learn more about recycling and how to apply it to your life.

6.  CONVENIENCE OR ENVIRONMENT: This day in age, it seems every product gets more and more packaged up!  Food stores sell 12-packs of individual plastic water bottles, 6-pack cookies/crackers/chips, and individual applesauce, jellos, puddings, etc.  Electronic stores wrap products multiple times in plastic, pack it in Styrofoam, then in multiple boxes before you can take it home.  Yes, individual servings are more convenient, but they are a million times worse for the environment.  Invest in a Nalgene bottle instead of buying and wasting plastic water bottles.  Invest in Tupperware to put chips, applesauce, pudding, veggies and other food items instead of wasting plastic and paper on individual packs or sandwich bags.

Obviously, this blog does not cover ALL the issues about climate change and global warming, or ALL the ways each person on this planet can help fix the problem, but it's a start.

Whatever you do, do NOT ignore this problem.  We helped cause climate change and global warming; now, it's up to us to fix it!  We hold Earth's future in the palm of our hands, and it's time for a change.   Mother Earth is waiting for us to heal her.

Freaky Florida Fatality

Florida is full of crazies, drunks, and elderly of all races and walks of life.  I was not surprised to read an article on CNN.com today, the headline stating: "Groom: Fiancee's Death Was Accident".  When I clicked on it, it brought me to WFTV, where the headline states "Man Shoots, Kills Fiancee Day Before Wedding".  Naturally, I'm intrigued.

Apparently, a 62- year old guy named John Tabbutt killed his future wife, Nancy Dinsmore.  But it was accidental.  He awoke at 3am, thought he heard an intruder, so he got his gun and shot the "intruder" in the chest.  The "intruder", however, was his fiancee.

First, before I go any further, I just want to express my sympathies for this man, a 62-year old man on the eve of his wedding, not only loses his fiancee, but he's the cause of it.  I can only imagine how this man is grieving and the guilt he will have to overcome.  I can't fathom what he and their families are going through.

With that said, the whole thing just smells fishy to me, and not because it took place in Florida.

1. I understand it's every person's right to bear arms, but why do you have a gun?  And furthermore, what is it doing so close to your bed?  Tabbutt claims he woke up around 3am, saw a shadow in the hall, and fired at it.  So, what that means to me is he opened his eyes, saw a shadow, and grabbed a gun from his nightstand or pillow and immediately aimed towards the shadow and pulled the trigger.

2.  If you're getting married tomorrow, WTF is your fiancee doing out at 3am?  Maybe it was her bachelorette party, but if that were the case, you would have known she would be out and coming home late.  Was she working a late shift?  Again, if that were the case, you would have known as well.  Or was she simply up getting a drink of water in the middle of the night, and returning to bed?  If that were the case, you would've tucked each other into bed, and had you awoken at 3am and noticed her side of the bed was empty, you would have known it was her.

3. Although the authorities are awaiting forensic and toxicology reports, I'd venture to say this gentleman probably had alcohol or other drugs in his body.  It just seems to make sense to me when the rest of the equation is all messed up.  I wouldn't be surprised if the authorities find motive, find more incriminating evidence, and the toxicology reports turn out to be fruitful.

In any neighborhood, it's a given anyone who wakes up at 3 am and sees a shadow in the hallway can suspect a burglar, so I applaud your quick reaction and thinking; however, something is just not adding up here.  I don't necessarily believe this shooting was "accidental".  Yes, maybe a mistake, but you pulled out your gun, aimed, and shot this "intruder" dead center in the chest; then, you figured out you killed your future wife?  Yikes my friend.

Sounds like you're gonna have a lot of explaining to do in spite of your grieving.  For your sake, I hope you're telling the truth.  Now, with all your family and friends coming in and out of your house, it might be best to lock up your weapons to avoid another tragedy.

One Day. One Topic. Thousands of Voices.

Blog Action Day 2009.  Get involved now.  Make a difference.

Obama + Nobel Prize=LUDICRIOUS

Every news outlet is reporting today that President Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize for...uh, for...wait, I'm not sure...why did he receive it again?  Yes, that's exactly what I thought too.

Everyone has heard of the Nobel Peace prize, but it's possible not many people know it's origins, or why it's such a high honor.  It all started with Alfred Nobel, a scientist, inventor, entrepreneur, author and pacifist. Basically, it was stated in his will that most of his estate was left to this prize, which would be awarded to a person in one of five categories.  According to his Will, it would be presented in five ways:
1. to the person who shall have made the most important discovery or invention within the field of physics
2. to the person who shall have made the most important chemical discovery or improvement
3. to the person who shall have made the most important discovery within the domain of physiology or medicine
4. to the person who shall have produced in the field of literature the most outstanding work in an ideal direction
5. to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses

According to the Nobel website, "Every year since 1901 the Nobel Prize has been awarded for achievements in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and for peace. The Nobel Prize is an international award administered by the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1968, Sveriges Riksbank established The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, founder of the Nobel Prize. Each prize consists of a medal, personal diploma, and a cash award".

President Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize this year "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples", according to CNN.com. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only citizen on Earth who is thinking "WTF"?!?!  Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Obama is a great guy and everything and I am more than happy that he is president, but there is always controversy surrounding the Nobel prizes, and for good reason.  Let me just point out people in history who have been nominated, who have won, and who did NOT get the Nobel Peace prize, and you do the math.

Once upon a time, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Josef Stalin were all nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize...

These people definitely deserved their awards: Teddy Roosevelt, Yasser Arafat, and Henry Kissinger...but what makes the least amount of sense are the nominations that failed to produce awards.  Is there a reason why Mahatma Ghandi did NOT receive the Nobel Peace Prize?  Is there an even better reason why Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII failed to be awarded?  Surely, they put forth more  "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples"...hell, even Al Gore earned his prize.

But Obama? Seriously? I've racked my brain and CNN.com and Time.com for articles proving Obama earned this award, and I come up empty handed.  I love the change America faced when we elected him; I love the support some Americans have given him; and I love that we have welcomed the first black first family into the White House...I'm proud to say I was alive when we saw our nation break through racial barriers to elect a black man into the highest office...with that said, the only reason why I think he was awarded is because he is America's first black president...that's it. I mean, that's a HUGE milestone and like I stated above, I think it's great, but that doesn't mean he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize!

If you take a look at the Nobel website, and take a look through past nominations and past winners, you'll start to see an odd pattern...it seems as though everyone is white! So, maybe the foundation needed to meet a quota to introduce a black man winner?Granted, Obama didn't nominate himself but still...there has to be someone else out there who did more  "to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples"!!!!  Well, if that's the case, let's give one to Oprah for being a black woman talk show host; let's give one to Tiger Woods for being a black male golfer...or Halle Berry for being the first black woman to win an Oscar...all these people are great in their own right, but they are certainly NOT Nobel Prize material!!!

Whatev...bask in your humble glory Obama. Hopefully you'll start to come through on some of your promises to "change" America and the world...at the end of the day, yes, you are America's first black president, yes, you are a good family man, but unfortunately for you, this is how most people still see you--mainly because you haven't proven yourself otherwise...America's waiting for change Obama...it's time to step up!

Facebook, or Foolbook?

Many people in this world are addicted to Facebook; and unfortunately, I'm one of them.  Although I like to keep up with people's daily going ons, I don't find it necessary to update my status during the most inappropriate times, like Jonathan Parker, a 19 year old kid who recently robbed a woman's house, getting away with some jewelry items.

That was all he got away with though.  This idiot actually logged into his Facebook account, updated his status, and then forgot to log out.  Once the woman came home, she solved the case herself.  The kid is being held in jail and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

Seriously? You're a moron...if you weren't addicted to Facebook, maybe you wouldn't have gotten caught.

Check out these other Facebook OOPS...idiots.

People of Walmart

I will be forever grateful to the person/people who decided to start a website dedicated to the beautiful creatures featured at your local Wal-Mart.  I don't shop there often anymore, mainly because it's farther away from my house and Target and K-Mart are closer, but let me assure you that I still see similar, unique creatures at every other department store I frequent.

If this website existed back in college, I'm sure I could've had a future on www.peopleofwalmart.com after a late night of drinking and screwing, but thankfully it didn't exist...

Still, I sometimes dream of being a People of Walmart Alumn...it's my goal. After seeing people like this, wouldn't it be your goal too?
