I am a pop culture junkie, so it's no surprise I hang out at Popeater. 

Today, I clicked on "Celebrity Twitter" to see what our celeb pals are tweeting about.  The first one mentioned something about Jessica Simpson and how people are pranking her, saying they found her dog Daisy.  Cruel? Indeed.  Slightly funny? In a twisted way, yes.

Kris Allen tweeted about how he's recording his music in the same studio where Prince recorded Purple Rain and trying to soak it all in, no pun intended.

Kelly Osbourne tweeted about how she won some stupid award for her unique style of dressing.  I didn't know "rehab" was an outfit.

But the tweet that caught my eye belonged to Hugh Hefner's ex girlfriend Bridget Marquardt, or "BM" as I dubbed her.  I read it, and then reread, and during the third reading, I realized this was a tweet that demanded me to read between the lines and make my own translation.

She tweeted: "My palms were sweating with anticipation and nervousness throughout Paranormal Activity.  Unfortunately, it never paid off.  Not too scary". 

Seems pretty normal, right? Well, let's rewind.  Who is Bridget Marquardt? Apparently she was a "Girl Next Door" on E! and lived at the Playboy mansion as one of Hefner's girlfriends...one of many that is.  The old bastard is ALWAYS seen with 2 or more women on his flanks...Anyone else notice the Playboy mansion is a glorified polygamy compound, but with hotter/less clothed women, and only one man? 

I digress.  Here's how I interpreted her tweet--I'll break it down for you, sentence by sentence, and beware, there are only 3...folks, there's a reason she was a Playboy bunny, and not an astronaut.

"My palms were sweating with anticipation and nervousness throughout Paranormal Activity" = "My hands were lubed up during sexual activity with an old man who was alive when T-Rex ruled the world, which in and of itself makes it 'paranormal activity'."

"Unfortunately, it never paid off"= "Damnit! I got my hands all lubed up for nothing! Damn old man can barely get it half mast, let alone full sail with fireworks!"

"Not too scary" = "I've seen and done A LOT worse!"



Next time BM, you don't have to speak in code to get your point across.  Just say what you mean.

Freaky Florida Fatality

Florida is full of crazies, drunks, and elderly of all races and walks of life.  I was not surprised to read an article on CNN.com today, the headline stating: "Groom: Fiancee's Death Was Accident".  When I clicked on it, it brought me to WFTV, where the headline states "Man Shoots, Kills Fiancee Day Before Wedding".  Naturally, I'm intrigued.

Apparently, a 62- year old guy named John Tabbutt killed his future wife, Nancy Dinsmore.  But it was accidental.  He awoke at 3am, thought he heard an intruder, so he got his gun and shot the "intruder" in the chest.  The "intruder", however, was his fiancee.

First, before I go any further, I just want to express my sympathies for this man, a 62-year old man on the eve of his wedding, not only loses his fiancee, but he's the cause of it.  I can only imagine how this man is grieving and the guilt he will have to overcome.  I can't fathom what he and their families are going through. 

With that said, the whole thing just smells fishy to me, and not because it took place in Florida.

1. I understand it's every person's right to bear arms, but why do you have a gun?  And furthermore, what is it doing so close to your bed?  Tabbutt claims he woke up around 3am, saw a shadow in the hall, and fired at it.  So, what that means to me is he opened his eyes, saw a shadow, and grabbed a gun from his nightstand or pillow and immediately aimed towards the shadow and pulled the trigger.

2.  If you're getting married tomorrow, WTF is your fiancee doing out at 3am?  Maybe it was her bachelorette party, but if that were the case, you would have known she would be out and coming home late.  Was she working a late shift?  Again, if that were the case, you would have known as well.  Or was she simply up getting a drink of water in the middle of the night, and returning to bed?  If that were the case, you would've tucked each other into bed, and had you awoken at 3am and noticed her side of the bed was empty, you would have known it was her.

3. Although the authorities are awaiting forensic and toxicology reports, I'd venture to say this gentleman probably had alcohol or other drugs in his body.  It just seems to make sense to me when the rest of the equation is all messed up.  I wouldn't be surprised if the authorities find motive, find more incriminating evidence, and the toxicology reports turn out to be fruitful. 

In any neighborhood, it's a given anyone who wakes up at 3 am and sees a shadow in the hallway can suspect a burglar, so I applaud your quick reaction and thinking; however, something is just not adding up here.  I don't necessarily believe this shooting was "accidental".  Yes, maybe a mistake, but you pulled out your gun, aimed, and shot this "intruder" dead center in the chest; then, you figured out you killed your future wife?  Yikes my friend. 

Sounds like you're gonna have a lot of explaining to do in spite of your grieving.  For your sake, I hope you're telling the truth.  Now, with all your family and friends coming in and out of your house, it might be best to lock up your weapons to avoid another tragedy.

Obama + Nobel Prize=LUDICRIOUS

Every news outlet is reporting today that President Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize for...uh, for...wait, I'm not sure...why did he receive it again?  Yes, that's exactly what I thought too.

Everyone has heard of the Nobel Peace prize, but it's possible not many people know it's origins, or why it's such a high honor.  It all started with Alfred Nobel, a scientist, inventor, entrepreneur, author and pacifist. Basically, it was stated in his will that most of his estate was left to this prize, which would be awarded to a person in one of five categories.  According to his Will, it would be presented in five ways:
1. to the person who shall have made the most important discovery or invention within the field of physics
2. to the person who shall have made the most important chemical discovery or improvement
3. to the person who shall have made the most important discovery within the domain of physiology or medicine
4. to the person who shall have produced in the field of literature the most outstanding work in an ideal direction
5. to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses

According to the Nobel website, "Every year since 1901 the Nobel Prize has been awarded for achievements in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and for peace. The Nobel Prize is an international award administered by the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1968, Sveriges Riksbank established The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, founder of the Nobel Prize. Each prize consists of a medal, personal diploma, and a cash award".


President Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize this year "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples", according to CNN.com. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only citizen on Earth who is thinking "WTF"?!?!  Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Obama is a great guy and everything and I am more than happy that he is president, but there is always controversy surrounding the Nobel prizes, and for good reason.  Let me just point out people in history who have been nominated, who have won, and who did NOT get the Nobel Peace prize, and you do the math.

Once upon a time, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Josef Stalin were all nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize...

These people definitely deserved their awards: Teddy Roosevelt, Yasser Arafat, and Henry Kissinger...but what makes the least amount of sense are the nominations that failed to produce awards.  Is there a reason why Mahatma Ghandi did NOT receive the Nobel Peace Prize?  Is there an even better reason why Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII failed to be awarded?  Surely, they put forth more  "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples"...hell, even Al Gore earned his prize.

But Obama? Seriously? I've racked my brain and CNN.com and Time.com for articles proving Obama earned this award, and I come up empty handed.  I love the change America faced when we elected him; I love the support some Americans have given him; and I love that we have welcomed the first black first family into the White House...I'm proud to say I was alive when we saw our nation break through racial barriers to elect a black man into the highest office...with that said, the only reason why I think he was awarded is because he is America's first black president...that's it. I mean, that's a HUGE milestone and like I stated above, I think it's great, but that doesn't mean he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize!

If you take a look at the Nobel website, and take a look through past nominations and past winners, you'll start to see an odd pattern...it seems as though everyone is white! So, maybe the foundation needed to meet a quota to introduce a black man winner?Granted, Obama didn't nominate himself but still...there has to be someone else out there who did more  "to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples"!!!!  Well, if that's the case, let's give one to Oprah for being a black woman talk show host; let's give one to Tiger Woods for being a black male golfer...or Halle Berry for being the first black woman to win an Oscar...all these people are great in their own right, but they are certainly NOT Nobel Prize material!!!

Whatev...bask in your humble glory Obama. Hopefully you'll start to come through on some of your promises to "change" America and the world...at the end of the day, yes, you are America's first black president, yes, you are a good family man, but unfortunately for you, this is how most people still see you--mainly because you haven't proven yourself otherwise...America's waiting for change Obama...it's time to step up! 

Hodag Hero

Last week, 2 Oct 2009, my hometown suffered a tremendous loss when one of our soldiers was killed in Afghanistan.  Sgt. Ryan Adams was a soldier, a son, a brother, a classmate, a friend, and most importantly, an American hero.  Our small community has gathered together to honor his memory, support his family and friends, and just mourn, grieve, and remember together.

A tragic, heroic death like this not only affects the immediate family and friends, but it also shatters a community and with our community, America grieves as well.  Although some people may not have known Sgt. Ryan Adams personally, or have a thorough understanding of the military, his life and death are an inspiration to everyone.  Although we are sad and may not understand this loss, do not forget how proud you are of this amazing young man and remember to take time each and every day to tell your family and friends you love them unconditionally...take time each day to enjoy life...you never know when it will be gone.


With that said, Sgt. Adams, you are a brave, amazing, inspirational young man and may you rest in peace as an American hero...you are a Hodag Hero.

RIP Sgt. Ryan Adams
SGT. Ryan C. Adams, age 26, died a hero defending our country and our freedom in Logar Province, Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom on October 2, 2009. He was born on December 7, 1982, in Brookfield, Wisconsin; the beloved son of Peter and Jalane Adams. Ryan graduated from Rhinelander High School in 2001 where he is remembered as a star quarterback, baseball player, and golfer. He proudly joined the military shortly after graduation and served his first tour of duty in Iraq in May 2003 to April 2004. He was an exceptional soldier who particularly valued his role in rebuilding the infrastructure of Iraq and loved nothing more than serving his country.

Ryan was a community and family man, treasuring the community of Rhinelander, brotherhood with his fellow soldiers, and the love of his many family members. He was most at peace spending time with friends and family and being in the outdoors while hunting, fishing, and simply celebrating life. Ryan truly loved family and friends and time spent together was precious. His compassion for others was infectious and he will be fondly remembered for his support and commitment to the Angel on My Shoulder cancer patient support program. Sadly, Ryan will never again see the land he helped keep free. We may all find peace knowing that our fallen son, brother, nephew, and friend has found heaven. With Ryan's vision of heaven, he may even now be hunting and fishing and telling stories of his time in Rhinelander.

Ryan is survived by his parents, Peter and Jalane Adams of Rhinelander; his loving sister, Amanda Adams of Rhinelander; aunts and uncles, John (Sally), Joe (Jane), Tom (Nancy), Barb (Scott), Tim (Mary), Annie (Jeff), Mary Jo (Scott), Margaret (Bill), Sue (Steve), Nancy (Bryce), Kathy (Todd), Jane (Dave), Pat (Kris), Judy (LaVerne), Kevin (Janet), Marge (Gene), and Vicky (Joe); and cousins, Matthew, Elizabeth, Jason, Jill, Kris, Julie, Tommy, Melissa, Charlie, Toby, David, Lindsay, Stephanie, Aimee, Sarah, Ben, Heidi, Eric, DJ, Billy, Annie Marie, Danny, Stevie, Mike, Maggie, Jenny, Katie, Kari, Molly, Erin, Christopher, Jamie, Megan, Michelle, Kelly, Allie, Jack, Tammy, Mark, Glen, Jessica, Bradley, LeeAnn, Jodi, Carl, Christine, Michael, and Stephanie. He is further survived by many friends and his fellow soldiers. Ryan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jack and Mickey Adams; maternal grandparents, Arthur (Irma) Grochowski and Lorraine Grochowski; his uncle, Paul; and cousins, Melissa and Christopher.

Funeral services for SGT. Adams will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2009, at the Rhinelander High School Auditorium with Father John Gerritts officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2009, at the Carlson Funeral Home (369-1414 / www.carlsonfh.com) and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the high school. Interment with military honors will follow in Northland Memorial Park.

Just a friendly reminder that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, one of the single most important month dedications there is.  Someone you know has been affected by breast cancer; a grandmother, a mother, an aunt, a sister, a niece, a child, a daughter, a friend.  What some people may not know is breast cancer can affect men as well, although it is very uncommon.

This month, as well as throughout the year, there are numerous activities in which to get involved in to support breast cancer research.  Someday, someone out there will find a cure for breast cancer, but it can't be done without your help.

The American Cancer Society has Making Strides Against Breast Cancer races throughout the year.  Please click on the name for a direct link to search for an event in your area.

Susan G. Komen For The Cure also holds events year round.  These events are typically called Race for the Cure, and take place all over the nation.  Click on the name for a direct link to search for an event in your area.

Some of these races are free to sign up; some require a mere $25-30 entrance fee.  For most races, you can collect pledges and donations.  These races are a great way to help fund breast cancer research.  Get your company/personal team started and start collecting donations. 

In late January of this year, we participated in Race For The Cure in West Palm Beach, FL and raised nearly $1,000 for Susan G. Komen foundation.  It was an extremely emotional race because my girlfriend's family had just suffered a devastating loss just a month prior to this race; her aunt Yvonne Rawley, 38, passed away from breast cancer just two weeks before Christmas and left behind a husband, and two young boys, as well as a huge extended family and friends.  She was not only an inspiration in life, but in death as well, and she is sorely missed by her friends and family. 

Breast cancer is a killer and strikes where you least expect it.  Be prepared. Get your annual exam from your OB GYN.  Do self breast exams at home.  Get a mammogram.  Participate in local breast cancer events.  Shop online at places like Save the TaTas and The Breast Cancer Site.  Purchase Yoplait yogurt and save the lids to send them in, or purchase other items in stores that support breast cancer.  It doesn't matter if it's $1 or $1,000; every little bit counts.

This year, we are participating in Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure events on 17 Oct 2009 in Miami and in January 2010 in West Palm Beach.  We are also participating in Making Strides Against Cancer on 10 October 2009 in Ft. Lauderdale. Komen website to learn more about breast cancer, shop, and get involved.  This year, and every year, we are walking in memory of not only Yvonne Rawley but every other person who has either survived or lost her battle with breast cancer.

Speidi Sex

Pretty sure there's a reason why Spencer and Heidi are still D-list celebs...because they're idiots and only shows like MTV's "The Hills" and "I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!!!" actually want to feature these tools.

People.com is now reporting that the ever intelligent Spencer Pratt is withholding sex from his wife, Heidi Montag, but not for the typical reasons you may think.  First of all, it's usually NOT the husband who withholds sex, so obviously there's something going on.

Apparently, Spencer was quoted by the New York Posts' Pop Wrap by saying "I'm not even kidding, my wife – OK, I'm gonna get crass here – but we're barely having sex because I'm scared that she's gonna have a baby...That's the level our marriage is on right now. I'm not even kidding – my wife has me debating cutting off my nuts."

Do you have an IQ? Why would you say that? Obviously you didn't realize how much of a douchebag you'd sound like by saying that. So what Heidi might stop taking birth control and not tell you because she wants to be a mom? What is so wrong with that? Obviously, I would NEVER condone Speidi offspring, for the clearest, most obvious reasons, but that doesn't mean Heidi can't have a dream?

More importantly, ever heard of a condom dipshit? If your wife stops taking birth control, cutting off your nuts is NOT the only option to prevent pregnancy! Use a damn condom because if your wife is horny and you're not putting out, she will start to look elsewhere my friend...oh, and abstinence in a marriage is a bit weird.

Jon Without Kate and 8?

TLC has officially dropped Jon Gosselin from "Jon and Kate Plus 8". I don't get it. Why wouldn't they drop Kate, the retched bitch that she is? I mean, Jon's no prize, but seriously? I thought the show was supposed to show American core family values, not showcase the rise and fall and ultimate demise of a marriage that not only affects the spouses but will haunt the children forever.

Now, TLC has come up with a "new" show, "Kate Plus 8" that debuts in November.  Um, still don't get it. According to CNN.com, this new show will take "a deeper focus on Kate's role in the family and her journey as a single mother building the next chapter in her life."

TLC, here's some advice. Just cancel the whole show! The only reason people watch it anymore is for the scandal! No one cares about Kate as a single mom; it was more fun to watch Jon squirm and Kate be a bitch to him.  Now, it's just going too far. It's time to think about the children involved and get them off national television because one day, you will all pay.

Fred Durst-ivorce

It was reported that Fred Durst's 3-month marriage to a woman named Esther is over...apparently he tweeted all about it, saying "For those of you inquiring I will confirm that Esther and I have decided to go our separate ways and we both thank you for your support."

Duh Fred. A marriage with you is probably similar to the marriage between Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson.  You didn't honestly think any woman in her right mind would love you 'til death did you part, did you? Oh my God! That's so sweet! You actually did...well, like you told us so many times, "it's all about the he said/she said bullshit", so I'm sure there's a good reason for your divorce.

P.S. I hear one of the KarDOUCHEian sluts is single.

Murder-Suicide

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm getting really tired of reading news stories about families who are victims of murder-suicide.  First of all, just because you are having financial difficulties does not mean your wife, your teenage son, and your young daughter, and even the family dog, need to die because of it.  How can you kill your wife, and then continue killing your entire family? It's not temporary insanity; it's not financial difficulties; it's just plain selfishness.  Everyone has financial difficulties right now.  Everyone has problems. But, not everyone picks up a gun and starts shooting because of it.

It just sickens me, this murder-suicide fad.  Every news article about it features a shocked community, a good family, and financial difficulties.  Seriously? Why is it becoming so popular to kill your family and then yourself? The only thing that solves is taking the lives of innocent people for no reason. 

What I don't understand about people going through financial difficulties is their refusal to scale down! Sell that house, live in an apartment.  Pick up a part time job.  Have your kids offer to mow lawns and shovel snow around the neighborhood for some extra cash. Have a garage sale. Sell your car and walk/bike/ride the bus to work.  There are other options besides killing your family.  And why does it always have to be a shotgun or a rifle? If you're going to kill your family, the family you swore you loved and took care of all these years, why do you have to shoot them dead? Selfish fucks.

Killing your family to "save" them from financial difficulties is the stupidest thing I've ever heard...here we have soldiers who are getting killed in a war, coming from good families who would give anything to have their children come back safely, and you take it upon yourself to kill your family? That just goes against the laws of nature.  It's true guns don't kill people; people kill people, but if guns weren't so damn easy to get a hold of, maybe we'd have less children dying at the hands of their fathers, or mothers.

Why can't you just commit suicide, and leave the rest of your family alone? If you have murder on your mind, the world will be better without you. Next time, you selfish asshole, put the gun in your mouth first, and spare everyone else because there are more good things in life than bad.  There is nothing so bad in life that you have to kill your family and yourself. So stop the violence already.  Get your head on straight before you think about blowing it to pieces.
